Sexual Trauma Survivors

Therapy for Survivors of Sexual Assault or Abuse

You woke up early this morning with your heart racing and lying in a puddle of sweat; another nightmare about your past assaults. You couldn’t settle down and get back to sleep, so you got out of bed and took a shower but still couldn’t shake off that frightening feeling.

As you went through the motions of your day, images of your past kept running through your mind. You try to focus on your work, but you feel like an actor- completely disconnected from the world around you.

You search google to try and understand why you still feel this way, even after all these years. You definitely can’t talk to people about it - you’re embarrassed that it is the same story over and over again and you worry that those closest to you are tired of hearing about it.

You Don’t Feel Safe

Even in busy public spaces- you don’t feel safe. You find yourself feeling threatened by strangers walking by, and notice your heart racing menacingly if you catch someone looking at you. With your heart racing, palms sweaty, you walk quickly away- looking over your shoulder.

Even though you’ve been shaken up all day, you plaster on a smile and force yourself to be present with your family, but by the time you get to bed you’re exhausted. You can’t receive touch or affection from your partner or kids when you’re in this place.

You Wonder How You Can Move Forward

Rachel Van Wickle, LMFT, online therapist for sexual trauma in SLO, California, Iowa City, Iowa, and SLC, Utah

You’re looking for someone who can help. Who won’t judge you, and who won’t be overwhelmed by your trauma.

As a certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP), I help survivors of sexual trauma reclaim their lives and their stories. Each survivor’s story is unique and while I believe that there is no single path to healing, I believe change is possible for each and every survivor. You can live out your life with more autonomy, confidence, and safety.

Change is Possible

My clients and I meet weekly to address their concerns, especially those impacting their daily life. My trauma-informed approach does not require you to relive your trauma or share any details that you prefer to keep confidential. You can speak as openly as is helpful to you, without concern of judgment or pressure. Using EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) and other trauma-informed techniques means that we move at your pace; empowering you to be the leader of your own care.

Together, we build a relationship founded on trust and understanding. In our work together we can help you achieve:

  • a more grounded nervous system

  • healthier and more intimate relationships with family and friends

  • hope for the future

  • increased self confidence

  • reclaiming of your sexuality

  • an understanding of the past that no longer haunts you

  • begin taking steps toward the future you want
